Humans beings are just one of the species that compounds web of live on Earth. So, our lives are part of the ecology of the planet. If we think that each of our actions are part of a collective (human/no human) relationships, we can be aware of the implications of being, of living. Those actions are assembled as a result of ways, styles, visions of living. All of them, develop within multi temporal and spatial webs of cultural values and ideas; all those meanings materialise in particular human practices. So, doing changes individually can be collective changes, as far as an individual is never isolated either regarding his/her ideas, either in his/her practices. For instance, breathe, eat, inhabit, move and so on, are all interactive practices with environments and different entities such as living beings and human beings.

Social work as a profession as well as discipline has a compromise no just with people but with the environments that make possible people’s lives and their livelihoods. This is a relational point of view of our compromise, of our mission and purpose. Dignity and social justice, in this perspective, are implied and are part of environmental and ecological justice.

Many thanks Dolly – It is worth looking out for the Global People’s Charter which will be launched at the end of this Summit. I think it will say something about these matters. Further reflections will be welcome before and after that launch.
